However, as the birthday festivities made headlines, so did a familiar name from the past. David’s former assistant, Rebecca Loos, has resurfaced with fresh claims about their alleged affair—two decades after she first made the accusations.
In a new interview with 60 Minutes Australia, uploaded to YouTube on March 30, Rebecca shared why she felt compelled to speak out once again.
Rebecca initially made headlines in 2004 when she alleged she had a “torrid affair” with David, despite his marriage to Victoria. David denied the claims at the time, calling them “ludicrous.” However, Rebecca says his dismissal made her feel like she was being branded a liar.
Though the controversy had faded over the years, David’s recent reference to that period in his Netflix documentary reignited her frustration. Calling it an “own goal,” she said his decision to revisit the ordeal gave her reason to respond.
Rebecca, who worked as David’s personal assistant after his 2003 move to Real Madrid, now reflects on that time with mixed emotions. She admitted their connection was undeniable.
“The chemistry between David and I was so strong that everyone was aware,” she claimed. “People weren’t happy, obviously, because I was being very unprofessional—and he was a married man.”
Rebecca recalled how David’s attention toward her changed when Victoria wasn’t around. She claimed that after a night out at a nightclub, David invited her to his hotel room. Though hesitant, she eventually agreed.
The following morning, she remembered showering in a bathroom she believed Victoria used. “It didn’t feel very right,” she admitted, “but at the same time, I had this big smile on my face.”
Despite knowing it was wrong, Rebecca said she was “hooked.” She claims to have kept text messages from David, describing them as “pretty intimate.” However, her perception shifted when she allegedly saw David flirting with other women, including at Ronaldo’s birthday party. That moment, she said, made her realize she had been “massively played.”
The private affair claims became a media firestorm when photos of Rebecca and David together surfaced. She recalled receiving a call from News of the World informing her the images would be front-page news. Panicked, she attempted to reach David’s mother for advice, but the media frenzy was already in motion.
Rebecca felt abandoned as Beckham remained silent. Visits to see him before matches became increasingly transactional. “It left me feeling cheap and used,” she admitted, though she acknowledged that at the time, she still had feelings for him.
Asked why she ultimately went public, Rebecca said she wanted to regain control of the narrative and make David feel the pain she had endured.
David addressed the affair allegations in his Netflix series, acknowledging the strain they placed on his marriage. While the documentary reignited public criticism of Rebecca, she has since spoken out against the double standard in how she and David were treated in the aftermath.
“There were loads of horrible stories. There were horrible stories about me. There were horrible stories about his wife, Victoria. There were never horrible stories about him,” she said. “He was ‘Golden Balls.’ He was ‘the man.’ Pat him on the back. ‘Good for you.’ Nothing changed in his life, but it was all Victoria’s fault. My fault. All the blame was on us.”
“It was hard, and when I was down, I was very, very down and very lonely,” she recalled. At the time, she explained, people weren’t as open about mental health. “You didn’t feel you could just say to someone, ‘Hey, I need to talk.’ It was something you battled with,” she added.
She said the emotional strain had lasting effects. “I went up against England’s favorite son,” she said. “It was a harsh environment to go up against.”
