Trump Insists U.S. Will Acquire Greenland ‘One Way or Another’

Former President Donald Trump has once again claimed that the United States will eventually acquire Greenland, insisting it would be in everyone’s best interest.

Since his time in office, Trump has repeatedly pushed for Greenland—an autonomous territory of Denmark—to become part of the U.S. However, both the Danish and Greenlandic governments have firmly rejected the idea, stating that Greenland is not for sale.

Tensions have escalated recently after U.S. Senator JD Vance made an unannounced visit to a U.S. military base in Greenland, further frustrating Danish and Greenlandic officials.

Greenland’s Acting Prime Minister, Mute Egede, addressed the situation, stating: “Just for the record, the government of Greenland has not extended any invitations for any visits, neither private nor official.”

Despite ongoing resistance, Trump continues to assert that he will secure Greenland “one way or another.”

In a new interview with reporters in the White House, on Friday (March 28) Donald Trump made it even clearer the reason he is gunning for Greenland so hard.

Speaking in the Oval Office, he said: “We need Greenland.

“Very importantly, for international security, we have to have Greenland. It’s not a question of, ‘Do you think we can do without it?’ We can’t.

“If you look at Greenland right now, if you look at the waterways, you have Chinese and Russian ships all over the place, and we’re not going to be able to do that. We’re not relying on Denmark or anybody else to take care of that situation.”

He added: “And we’re not talking about peace for the United States. We’re talking about world peace. We’re talking about international security. And right now you look at it, you have warships all over the place going through, right along Greenland.”

This isn’t the first time Trump has spoken about how desperately the US wants the nation.

Speaking to a joint session of Congress at the start of the month, Trump issued a message to the people of Greenland with a slight dangerous undertone.

He said: “We strongly support your right to determine your own future. If you choose we welcome you into the United States of America.”

Speaking of his goal of acquiring Greenland, he added: “I think we’re going to get it – one way or the other, we’re going to get it … We will keep you safe. We will make you rich and together we will take Greenland to heights like you have never thought possible before.”
