Justin Trudeau Gets Emotional in Farewell Speech as Successor Takes Aim at Trump

Former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau struggled to hold back tears during his farewell speech, delivering an emotional goodbye while taking a final jab at U.S. President Donald Trump.

Trudeau, 53, stepped down following a wave of resignations from his cabinet in late 2024. During his address to the Liberal Party, he was visibly emotional, dabbing his eyes with a tissue as he reflected on his tenure.

He has been succeeded by former banker and Bank of England chief Mark Carney, who secured a decisive victory in the recent elections.

Carney wasted no time addressing U.S.-Canada relations, criticizing Trump for policies he claimed were harming Canadian families, workers, and businesses.

Despite his emotional farewell, Trudeau expressed immense pride in his decade of leadership. “Don’t get me wrong—I am damn proud of what we’ve done over the past decade. But tonight, it’s about our future as a party and as a country,” he declared.

The outgoing prime minister reaffirmed Canada’s strength, stating that the nation stands firm in the face of challenges. “Canada is a country that fights when it must, with elbows up,” he said. “I’m proud to have led a nation that embraces its identity, no matter the obstacles.”
