Teen Breaks World Record for Hairiest Face—With 95% Coverage

A real-life teen wolf has been discovered, and he’s fully living up to the title.

Lalit Patidar, an 18-year-old from India, isn’t concerned with shaving—despite having nearly his entire face covered in hair.

Patidar now holds the world record for the hairiest face, with an astonishing 201 hairs per square centimeter of skin. This means over 95% of his face is covered in hair. He was born with a rare condition called hypertrichosis, commonly known as “werewolf syndrome,” which causes excessive hair growth.

Since the Middle Ages, only about 50 cases of hypertrichosis have been recorded, making it an extraordinarily rare condition—occurring in just one in a billion people.

To secure his world record, Patidar traveled to Milan, where a trichologist assessed his hair density. While in Italy, he also appeared on a television program.

Upon learning that he had officially set the record, Patidar was overwhelmed with joy. “I’m speechless,” he shared. “People used to be scared of me—no one would talk to me. Now, I’m being honored for the very thing that set me apart.”
