Alec Baldwin’s luxe Greenwich Village duplex is feeling a little cramped—and he’s not afraid to say so.
On his new TLC reality show, The Baldwins, which premiered on Feb. 23, the 66-year-old actor confesses, “We know it’s too small,” while standing in his Devonshire House penthouse.
At 4,137 square feet, the space—purchased for $11.7 million in 2011—might seem palatial. But when you factor in Baldwin’s wife, Hilaria, their seven kids, four dogs, four cats, and a likely crew of nannies, things get tight.
This isn’t just any apartment—it’s a slice of downtown history.
Built in 1928 by famed architect Emery Roth (of El Dorado and Beresford fame), Devonshire House originally catered to working professionals and bohemian artists staggering home from local speakeasies. Decades later, Cheshire Group LLC transformed the 131-unit prewar building into high-end condos, complete with gothic detailing and elegant urns out front.
“We tried to make the apartments gracious,” said broker Robert McCain, who helped redesign the floor plans and sold the first units, including Baldwin’s. “They were a pleasure to work with,” he told Curbed.
Sotheby’s agent Wendy Arriz, who has handled multiple sales in the building, describes it as “very traditional, solid,” with a “West Side vibe”—the kind that lured Baldwin away from his former residence at Roth’s El Dorado uptown. Back in the day, he praised the El Dorado as “more real … not a little kind of jewel-box, privileged pocket of the city.”
Still, even dream homes have their limits.
Since moving in, the Baldwins have been engaged in an ongoing game of real estate Tetris.
In 2012, just after tying the knot, Hilaria scooped up a $1.2 million one-bedroom next door. That was followed by a $1.3 million studio in 2017, a $1.7 million penthouse in 2019, and a $340,000 renovation in 2022 to merge the spaces—bringing their total footprint to roughly 6,086 square feet, plus 760 square feet of terraces, according to Reddit sleuths tracking Hilaria’s Instagram posts.
Speaking of which, Hilaria has been known to share selfies from what appears to be a public hallway—mirrors, elevators, and gray floors in the background—where the family does push-ups, yoga, and even stashes their shoes. “F–king rude!” one Redditor fumed.
The Baldwins have been house-hunting on and off for years, eyeing a $16.5 million Chelsea penthouse and a $16.6 million NoMad condo in 2017. But so far, they’ve opted to stay put—expanding their footprint at Devonshire House rather than making a move.
