The former midtown Manhattan residence of actress Anne Hathaway and her ex-boyfriend Raffaello Follieri is now on the market for $33 million.
The couple rented the five-bedroom duplex in the Olympic Tower during the mid-2000s, paying $37,000 per month, according to co-listing agent Alexander Bank of Compass, whose family owns the property.
Follieri, an Italian entrepreneur, was sentenced to 4½ years in prison in 2008 on charges of conspiracy, fraud, and money laundering. He was released in 2012 and deported to Italy.
Spanning approximately 7,750 square feet, the Fifth Avenue apartment boasts views of St. Patrick’s Cathedral and offers unobstructed sightlines of Central Park from the living room. The study features an 8-foot-wide projector screen and views of the Empire State Building.
Bank’s parents, South African real-estate developer Munro Bank and his wife Avra, purchased the duplex in 2000 for $5.325 million and invested roughly $7 million in renovations. The family lived in the apartment until 2006 before relocating to Miami and renting it out.
Recalling Follieri as “a very charming man,” Avra Bank noted that rent was always paid on time and there were no issues with him as a tenant.
Over the years, the apartment has had multiple tenants, with rental prices reaching as high as $70,000 per month. Currently listed for $48,000 per month, the property faces increased competition due to an influx of luxury condo developments, Bank said.
Anne Hathaway is now married to producer Adam Shulman and welcomed her first child in March. The Academy Award-winning actress, known for Les Misérables (2012), will appear in the upcoming film Alice Through the Looking Glass. She could not be reached for comment.
