O.J. Simpson’s estate has filed a lawsuit against his son, Justin Simpson, over the ownership of the Las Vegas home where the former NFL player died in April 2024.
Estate administrator Malcolm LaVergne alleges that Justin improperly took control of the property through his company, Primary Holdings LLC, despite an agreement stating that O.J. Simpson was the true owner.
The estate demands that Justin return the home or compensate for the equity his father invested.
Court documents claim that Simpson had personally chosen the property, covered all financial obligations, and was intended to remain the de facto owner.
LaVergne argues that Justin took advantage of his father’s declining health to gain sole control of the property.
A Complicated Ownership and Financial Dispute
The property was originally purchased in 2022 for $795,000 through Justin’s real estate company, reportedly as a legal safeguard to protect it from creditors.
Simpson, who was acquitted in his criminal trial but found liable in a civil case for the deaths of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman, owed over $100 million in damages by the time of his passing.
Additionally, he had outstanding tax debts with the IRS.
The lawsuit claims that while Justin’s LLC was listed as the owner, Simpson was the actual financial contributor, making all mortgage payments and covering upkeep costs.
Despite this arrangement, Justin allegedly persuaded his father to formalize the transfer of ownership, allowing him to claim the home for himself after Simpson’s death.
Legal Battle Over the Estate’s Claims
After moving into the property, Justin reportedly refused to compensate the estate for the down payment or the home’s increased value, which is now estimated at $835,000.
LaVergne has criticized Justin’s actions, describing them as selfish and contrary to the terms of Simpson’s living trust, which stipulated that the property should be divided among all four of his children.
The lawsuit seeks a court ruling to either force Justin to relinquish ownership of the home or reimburse the estate for its financial stake.
If the estate prevails, the property may be sold, with proceeds distributed among Simpson’s heirs.
