The remains of Alex Hodgson Doughty, a 32-year-old British man who went missing in Florida in September 2022, have been discovered in a wooded area of private land in Kingsland, Georgia.
Doughty was last seen in Jacksonville, Florida, where he had been living at the time. Reports indicate that he traveled to Kingsland using the Uber app before disappearing. His remains were recovered by authorities on February 4.
Special Agent in Charge Kristin Rehler of the FBI expressed condolences to Doughty’s family, stating, “While we had hoped for a different outcome, we are grateful to provide his loved ones with some closure.” She credited the discovery to collaborative efforts and the FBI Jacksonville’s Cellular Analysis Survey Team (CAST), which played a key role in identifying potential search locations.
The FBI has stated that foul play is not suspected, but no further details have been released regarding the cause of death.
Doughty was first reported missing by his mother after she was unable to contact him. Investigators ultimately located him using mobile phone-based tracking technology, which helped retrace his movements.
An official told First Coast News, “This wasn’t a traditional investigation relying on interviews. Instead, we used geolocation data and digital footprints from everyday electronics to reconstruct his final movements and pinpoint a search area.”
Authorities are now looking into why Doughty traveled to Kingsland before his disappearance.
